Lady Windermere’s Phone

Life is far too important a thing to ever talk seriously about it. Oscar Wilde

Lady Windermere’s phone is a modernisation of Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde. Lady Windermere has a great boyfriend, great friends, and a great new phone. And she is preparing her 18th birthday party, which is going to be great as well. She even bought flowers. Everything is just perfect.

But then, weird things start to happen: her best friend Lady Darlington confesses that she’s in love with her, and a strange man named Mr. Erlynne comes into her life and all of a sudden it’s not so great anymore.

Lady Windermere feels just like you would feel when comparing this play to the original version from 1892: Everything is changing…

Lady Windermere’s Phone is pretty close to what Oscar Wilde would have written, had he lived today and not 123 years ago. Just like its predecessor, this play mirrors and satirises the society of its time. It tells the story of Lady Windermere, a young woman with a slightly old-fashioned mindset and strict principles, who learns to be open and independent.
